Mathews Soil Consultants, Inc. (MSCI) was founded in 1973 by Dr. Harold L. Mathews, a graduate of three land grant universities:
Auburn, VPI, and Penn State. Shortly after completing his doctoral work in remote sensing, Dr. Mathews established an office
in Chesterfield County, Virginia. A former VPI Soil Mapper and Chesterfield County Soil Scientist, Dr. Mathews recognized
the need to provide competent, technical services in Central Virginia aimed at identifying, mapping, and interpreting soil
characteristics for urban, suburban, and rural land uses. Over the past 35 years, Dr. Mathews has helped shape the science
and regulatory community through his involvement in thousands of land use projects and scientific research. With major interests
and studies in soil science, geology, and ground water hydrology, Dr. Mathews and his company continue to play a leading role
in meeting the challenges of today’s land use problems.
Our staff members at MSCI are multi-disciplined with
backgrounds in geology, soil science, ground water hydrology, geotechnical engineering, construction, surveying, and regulatory
service. Our staff are experts at identifying, mapping, and interpreting soil for a wide range of uses. Reports
are prepared by our own Certified Professional Soil Scientists (CPSS) and Authorized
Onsite Soil Evaluators (AOSE). Our staff has extensive knowledge of the Health Regulations that govern
onsite sewage disposal systems and private wells, and stays abreast of the many changes that take place within the regulatory
community. Our service technicians are highly trained and provide timely service
on all types of onsite sewage systems.
MSCI is fully licensed and insured and is a member of the Virginia Association
of Professional Soil Scientists (VAPSS), the Virginia Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association (VOWRA),
and the National Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association (NOWRA).
MSCI pledges to work closely with you and your associates to ensure the successful and satisfactory
completion of your project.
